About Us

Born in the land of Smith Rock State Park. Forged by climbers. Fueled by the craft ciders and draft IPAs of Bend, Oregon.
Is Sendtown just Mountain Project for Climbing Gyms? Of course it is! Yet our goal is to take this simple idea and make it the best possible place for you to enhance your climbing gym experience. We aim to bring back a part of the Internet from its early days -- that this site is made to delight you, the climber, as well as to help foster community in your gym. And to do that while preserving your privacy. We won't send you marketing spam and we won't sell your data. In short we'd like to bring back a time when websites did what you wanted without feeling like you have to navigate a perilous maze of dark patterns.
I mean, we're all kind of thrill seekers here, but better to get that adrenaline rush on the walls and not from successfully evading a free to automatic paid signup trap.
So what can Sendtown actually do for you?
Well, we recognize that most of us would rather be crushing it outside on real rock most of the time, but the reality is that life can throw a lot of obstacles your way, making it hard to get outside as often as you want. On top of that, when you do get a chance for that climbing trip you've been dreaming of, you probably don't want to spend your time waiting in line to lap the only 5.4 on the wall because your conditioning hasn't kept up.
Our local climbing gyms bridge that gap between desire and reality, providing a way to train for your climbing goals in a way that is convenient. There's lots of way to use your gym: projecting hard climbs, getting laps in and building endurance, working on techniques and tricks, and just plain active social time with friends.
For all the days we're pulling on plastic, we wanted a way to track our progress and measure changes over time. Track your projects, measure your endurance sessions -- these things can really take your training to the next level. Then sprinkle in a friendly competition as you can compare your climbs with your friends and you have a perfect recipe for making your gym sessions a little more fun.
Ok, you're sold on the concept but now you can't find your climbing gym on Sendtown? How do you get it? Well, the answer right now is to go to your gym manager and beg them to sign up! Our business model is to charge a subscription fee to your gym for access, and their routesetters will take care of adding routes for their gym. Then you, as a member of your gym are free to use Sendtown.
Unfortunately, we don't currently have a plan to support user-submitted route data since there's a giant can of worms with trying to moderate content from anonymous Internet users. That means your best bet for now is to hit that suggestion box at your gym, casually name-drop Sendtown at the front desk, email your gym manager, or maybe even stage a small protest. Once your gym contacts us we can get them enrolled.
